A pop-up SWANA film series —
Screening in Austin, Texas.

TANGERINES is a monthly movie program offering a fresh perspective on an underrepresented region. Southwest Asian and North African films are often mischaracterized as being all sad, boring, and serious. We're here to challenge that.
Featuring genre films, experimental cinema, and screenings
that will surprise you, TANGERINES exists to subvert popular
expectations of what "Middle Eastern film" can be. If you're on
the hunt for something silly, surreal, or just different, you've
come to the right place. We can't wait to see you there!
Meet the Programmer

Howdy! My name is Mina. I'm a local filmmaker, a second generation Iranian-American, and a lover of all things weird and wild.
I graduated from UT in 2024 with a degree in Middle Eastern Studies and recently completed a programming internship with Austin Film Society. I hope to bring a multidisciplinary lens to SWANA cinema, drawing on both my education and personal experiences.
TANGERINES is my way of giving back to the communities that mean so much to me, and an opportunity to show people the best films they've never seen. I hope you'll stick around!
